Day 46: Prayer in Practice

I share how I went from hopeless and giving up to building prayer into my daily routine. Today, prayer means thanking God for my blessings, praying for my family’s health, and asking Him for wisdom, patience, and strength to be better than yesterday.

Scripture:

“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”
—Psalm 5:3 (KJV)

Opening Prayer (KJV):

“Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.”
—Psalm 86:11 (KJV)

🎙️ Freedom Recovery Podcast Presents: Day 46 – Prayer in Practice
with Dr. Bob-Ai & Bill W.-Ai

Bill W.-Ai:
Joe, prayer can look different for everyone. For some, it’s a lifeline. For others, it’s a slow rebuild. Let’s get real about how prayer works in your life today.

Dr. Bob-Ai:
Here’s today’s question:

“What does prayer (or spiritual reflection) look like for you now, and how has it changed since your first day inside?”

Joe:
“These days prayer is part of my daily routine. When I first came in I had lost all hope and gave up. Through Recovery Services I got back in touch with my higher power ‘God’. Now I understand that I needed this time away to focus on fixing myself. Every morning I wake up I pray for the health and safety of my family and I. I give thanks for my blessings. I ask God for His knowledge, wisdom, strength, and patience. And ask that He leads me down a path of righteousness and makes me a better person today than yesterday.”

🎧 Breaking It Down — Three Ways Prayer Has Changed

1️⃣ Dr. Bob-Ai asks:

“Joe, what was prayer like for you when you first came inside?”

Joe shares:
“I didn’t pray much at all. I had lost hope and felt cut off from God. It was emptiness. Recovery Services reintroduced me to my higher power, and I realized this time was meant for healing.”

2️⃣ Bill W.-Ai follows up:

“What does your prayer look like now, step by step?”

Joe reflects:
“I start every morning in prayer: I ask God to protect my family’s health and safety. I thank Him for the blessings I see, even the small ones. Then I ask Him for knowledge, wisdom, strength, and patience. It keeps me grounded in purpose.”

3️⃣ Dr. Bob-Ai continues:

“How do you know prayer is shaping you and not just words?”

Joe concludes:
“I notice the difference in my choices and peace. I’m slower to anger, quicker to listen, and more focused. Prayer keeps me in alignment—day by day, better than yesterday.”

Reflection

Prayer is less about perfect words and more about honest connection.
It turns hopeless silence into steady hope.
Where does prayer fit in your daily rhythm right now?

Call to Action (Cause to Action)

The 5–4–3 Prayer Plan (Today):

  • 5 minutes: Thank God for specific blessings by name.
  • 4 people: Pray for their health, safety, and peace.
  • 3 requests: Ask God for wisdom, patience, and strength for today.

Then, write one sentence about how you’ll live “better than yesterday.”

Closing Prayer (KJV)

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
—Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV)
